Lungi Ngidi took 4-29 in a fine Proteas bowling display to limit India to 133 -9, despite Suryakumar Yadav punching 68 from 40 balls.

South Africa slipped to 24- 3 in response but David Miller had 59 from 46 balls saw them go home with two spare balls.

Victory in Perth puts Proteas ahead of India, who suffer their first defeat of the tournament.

Miller and Aiden Markram put in 76 for the fourth wicket to turn the game back in favor of South Africa after their bad start with the bat.

Markram hit 52 of 41 balls to support the South African innings in the middle of the overs, although he was dropped on 35 by Virat Kohli and survived Rohit Sharma missing a five yard chance seven balls later.

Markram eventually fell in 16th but Miller held his nerve to see South Africa cross the finish line in a thrilling finish.

Previously, Bangladesh briefly entered the top two with a dramatic victory over Zimbabwe, who are also still in a position to qualify.

In Sunday's second match, the Netherlands were eliminated following the loss to Pakistan, whose chances of progression are now very slim. They need to beat both Bangladesh and South Africa and hope for several more results to suit them.

Proteas pace bowlers excellent

It was a resounding victory for South Africa against a number one ranked Indian team in the T20s.

After rain ruined their opener against Zimbabwe, the Proteas have now picked up back-to-back victories to announce themselves as genuine title contenders.
