A lucky teenager has won $1million (£820,000) on a lottery scratch card just two weeks after his grandfather predicted it.

Dalton Radford was on his way to his second job when he stopped at a local store to buy an energy drink and two scratch cards.

The 18-year-old, a public works employee, said: "I left work and was going to my second job.

"Stopped in for a white Monster drink and two Carolina jackpot tickets."

Dalton said he realized he had pocketed a million when he checked the scratch cards in the store's parking lot.

He told the North Carolina Education Lottery, "I was like, 'Hey, I just won a million dollars.'

Dalton, of Dallas, North Carolina, USA, purchased the winning lottery card at Will's Food Store III on Dallas High Shoals Highway, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Dalton said his grandfather predicted he would win $1 million in the lottery just two weeks before he bought the winning ticket.

He claimed his prize at the lottery company headquarters in Raleigh.

North Carolina Education Lottery said Dalton could have accepted a lump sum payment of $600,000 (£491,412) or an annual payment of $50,000 (£40,951) over 20 years.
