Tennis fans part ways as Carlos Alcaraz blows himself up for 'bad form' celebrations in Miami win

Carlos Alcaraz began his Miami Open title defense by beating Facundo Bagnis 6-0 6-2 on Friday in just over an hour. But tennis fans are divided after the world number 1 was seen raising his fist in celebration of the winners after winning the first eight matches of the match.

Alcaraz has been in imperious form recently and won his maiden Grand Slam title last year when he lifted the US Open trophy in September. The 19-year-old has lost just one of his 16 matches this year and has had way too many for Bagnis, who is ranked No.100 in the world.

Alcaraz clearly takes every point in every game seriously, with a video posted to show the ace celebrating vehemently during the game, despite having a huge lead. And fans gave their reactions to the clip.

“So weird Carlitos pumps his fist and Vamos like crazy to 6-0 2-0,” @Shaptennispod wrote after sharing the video. "Useless. Bad form." And in a separate tweet, he added: "I appreciate a properly timed punch pump. The punch at 8-0 is out of control and inappropriate. @hannahkieran responded by writing: "He's a talented player , he's humble off the court, but somehow I don't really like his manners on the court either."

Meanwhile, @martinwilson73 agreed, writing, "That's what I can't stand about him." And @TheJoyOfADeuce added: "Unfortunately a common theme with him. Ill-advised kid. Phenomenal player but insufferable spectacle of masculinity. Pfff annoying."

But many fans have come to the youngster's defence, with @AlistairJeffs hitting back: "Maybe there was something he was trying at that time that he was working on with his team that he was happy? I don't think it was a punch in the face."

And @Princess0937 wrote: "Sorry, but like most comments, this is a good catch. If you think the Big 3 didn't make it when routing an opponent, you're wrong unfortunately. Ppl can't make it because a party is more for you. You can't control your opponent, but you can control yourself. So you constantly maintain your level. Show that no matter which opponent you respect, if my level drops, it can come back. It's more to keep showing non-tellers that I belong here."

Meanwhile, @dhruvkanal wrote: "Haha. He's got every right and it's all about pumping himself up for a flawless performance not meant for his opponent at all. And@TennisTweetts1 added: "Imagine to be thwarted by the gentlest of fist push-ups. Leave Carlitos alone."

Alcaraz will be in action next when he takes on 32-year-old Serbian Dusan Lajovic at the 1/32 Miami Open, and it will be interesting to see whether or not he changes his behavior on the court against the slight criticism.
