Thirty-three ISIS wives were massacred by a rival of the terror group in a revenge execution.

Boko Haram, an Islamist militant group, killed partners of Islamic State fighters as fighting escalated between the rivals.

It started earlier this week when Boko Haram leader Ali Ngulde sent his troops to a camp to execute their wives.

Group commander Malam Aboubakar and more than 12 others were killed by ISWAP fighters after Zagazola Makama talks failed, a security analyst said.

SWAP fighters were once part of the Islamist militant group, but they split and became rivals by encouraging other Boko Haram members to defect and increasing support from civilian populations.

The jihadist insurgency was launched by Boko Haram in 2009 and is centered in northeast Nigeria.

Boko Haram wants to overthrow the Nigerian government and replace it with a Sharia-compliant Islamic regime.

According to an estimated figure, more than 40,000 people have died and around two million are displaced in the conflict, which has also affected neighbors Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

Known for its brutality, the group has committed a series of terrorist attacks and massacres with attacks and abductions of civilians, especially young women and girls.
