Tessa Thompson swears by this cult foundation and $8 face mist

What beauty products do you always use in the morning or take with you?

Funny you ask that question. …I was traveling for the Creed III press tour, and before that, I was in Japan. So I traveled in a suitcase for about a month and a few changes. I thought I really had to improve on bringing less toiletries and less makeup!

I think this is an issue we can all relate to. I am a notorious overpacker.

It's so bad! It's really a problem for me, so it's good that you ask me this question because I have to improve. Alright, if I can only bring a few things, I'll bring a rose water spray. I would also bring Jao hand sanitizer ($10) as you can also use it to freshen up and as a deodorant. I would take a bottle of Armani Luminous Silk [foundation] and concealer. I would take a lip balm, like some kind of natural lipstick. I should also bring sunscreen.

Now let's talk skin prep! What are your favorite skincare products right now?

It really depends on how much time I have and how tired I am. Sometimes I don't get up early enough. I'm definitely a lot more into gadgets and different things like using a gua sha tool. I feel like I've learned a lot more from different people using things properly, and especially because I travel a lot, I think it's nice to be able to deflate. I've gotten better and more savvy because I don't spend a lot of time on beauty, but I've become more savvy at multitasking with those things. Sometimes... I'll set an alarm a little earlier than necessary, then I'll just pop up, rinse my face with water, put some oil on, then go back to bed and use the gua sha and do drainage lymphatic while I'm still in bed [laughs]. So I'm still half asleep, basically, or I'm going to put on an episode of Emily in Paris and put on an LED light mask.

I've integrated all of these things much better while I'm doing other things because who has 30 minutes to afford a facial every day? But I think something that has really changed my skin too is making sure it's cleansed, especially during times when I'm busy and wearing a lot of makeup. I never really understood the double cleansing thing [until now]. I started doing it, and it makes such a big difference. Well, I'll let you in on a little secret. There's this beauty line that's all natural, and it looks like you can eat the products. This one, I feel like I accidentally ate a little! It's simply Divine Botanicals.

Simply Divine Botanicals is amazing. They make my favorite body butter, which is called How Now Brown Cacao ($35) – they all have really funny names. There's also this mask you can use daily, and it's called Honey, I Shrunk Pores ($34). It's so cute, and it's safe to use daily, and you can spread it on toast. It kinda looks like a marmalade or something, but it's really great, and it's all natural. They also make a really nice foot cream, but it's all super natural, and it reminds me of the beauty products I would see in my mom's bathroom growing up - just super natural stuff and your skin really likes it , Really. I really think being intentional, like doing a lot of exfoliation, especially when I'm wearing makeup, has really changed my skin tone and made it look a lot brighter.

What does your daily makeup routine look like?

It's pretty simple but it also got a bit more complicated because I discovered gadgets, tools and everything. On a perfect day, I would have a minute to do things like prep the skin. It would be a toner, a moisturizer depending on the weather and what my skin needs. I really got into primer, and Armani Beauty makes a nice primer that I use now if I'm going to do my makeup. Generally, an everyday thing for me is a no-makeup [look]. [I like] just a bit of foundation...
