1975's Matty Healy eats raw meat on stage during a concert

Matty Healy didn't beat around the bush at this gig this week. Instead, he just cut to the chase...and we literally mean it.

The 1975 frontman was performing with his band on Monday night at New York's Madison Square Garden, where he stopped in part way through the performance to nibble on a slice of steak live. And, that was more than rare...that thing didn't seem cooked at all.

Never mind, though... MH still bit into it during the bizarre stunt, in which he was shirtless and on his knees. He didn't stop nibbling either - the dude seems to have swallowed too.

If it looks weird on video, it was even weirder for those who filmed it in person... Matty's raw meal got a ton of reactions when the videos started circulating on Twitter. Even his own mother, Denise Welch, testified...saying that she too saw her son become completely primal.

No explanation was given as to why Matty did what he did, but it's not that far from his wheelhouse. The guy and his fellow musicians are known to be activists when the time demands... 1975 having spoken out publicly on a number of issues in recent years.

Matty addressed topics such as gender inclusion, LGBT rights, abortion, misogyny, mental health as well as climate change.

Neither Matty nor the band said so, but it's possible this is a demonstration of the environmental impact of eating meat.

Or maybe they stand up to Big BBQ?
