All 4 Man Utd players are currently set to go free this summer

Erik ten Hag's reconstruction is underway at Old Trafford and they could say goodbye to several players this summer as their contracts are due to expire this summer.

The Red Devils managed to get back on track in the Premier League after what turned out to be a rocky start. Ten Hag have now set the new standards for the club and they are expected to be busy again this summer.

We took a closer look at their squad and selected the four players who could leave on a free transfer this summer if their contract is not renewed.

David de Gea

United have the option of triggering a one-year extension to De Gea's contract but they have opted against it so far. With Ten Hag keen to introduce a new salary cap, the Spaniard is unlikely to get a new contract on his current salary of £375,000 a week.

The club seem willing to negotiate a new deal with the goalkeeper, albeit on reduced terms. "I'm very relaxed," said De Gea when asked about his contract situation. “I just focus on training, doing the best I can. But, for sure, it will end well.

"I hope (to stay for the rest of my career). I was saying this is my club, I've been here for many, many years and it's a huge honor to be here and I'm so happy here."

Axel Tuanzebe

The 25-year-old last played for Manchester United in the 2021 Europa League final. He spent the second half of last season on loan with Napoli but only made two appearances during his stay there.

He's been sidelined all season so far due to an injury he picked up over the summer and now looks more than likely to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Phil Jones

Jones has made over 200 appearances for the Red Devils but has been out of the limelight for a few years now. The defender returned to action in January last year against Wolves after almost two years without playing.

Ten Hag left Jones out of his 25-man squad at the start of the season and his 12-year spell at Old Trafford will most likely come to an end this summer.

Tom Heaton

The former England goalkeeper was signed by Manchester United in the summer of 2021 to replace De Gea and Dean Henderson. Since joining, Heaton has played just two games, his last performance being United's 3-0 win over Charlton.

The club has the option of extending his contract for another year. After his clean sheet against Charlton, he told the club's official website: "Opportunities have been hard to come by.

"It was a bit frustrating not to play in the previous round, I had a small injury - bad timing - and Martin [Dubravka] played well in that game. But luckily I was on the team sheet tonight and hopefully there will be more to come."
