The return of skinny jeans: Céline at her fall 2023 show in Los Angeles
Hedi Slimane's Fall 2023 women's show for Céline was an ode to the skintight, sordid style of the early 2000s.
LOS ANGELES — Wheat dough posters and bus stop advertisements began popping up across the city in early December. They depicted a woman, her head thrown back in ecstasy and her hair frozen in the air, as well as the words: Céline au Wiltern. Deco gem in Los Angeles' Koreatown neighborhood, opened as a movie theater in 1931. Originally designed for vaudeville shows, the venue has over the years hosted live events from musical acts such as Prince, Bob Dylan and Beck. Last Thursday he continued in that tradition, hosting a fashion show and concert with a lineup so stacked it could have made Coachella bookers see green.
The performers were all booked by Celine, the French brand owned by luxury group Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, and now overseen by top designer Hedi Slimane. For nearly three decades, Mr. Slimane's work - at Dior Homme, Saint Laurent and Celine - has had a symbiotic relationship with music, especially rock 'n' roll. This relationship was not only visible during the concert, but also during the fashion show that preceded it, which presented Celine's fall 2023 womenswear collection.
