This $26 bottle of chardonnay was judged Australia's best white wine at an international fair

A bottle of Chardonnay from South Australia has won the "Best of Show Australian white wine" award at a prestigious international wine competition.

The $26 bottle - produced by Taylors Wines of Clare Valley - won the award at the Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards held in Germany at the end of February.

Taylors Wine also won Australia's Best Winery.

Schubert Estate Wines in the Barossa Valley won Best of Show Australian red trophy and a gold medal for his 2018 Schubert Estate Goose-Yard Block Shiraz.

Third generation winemaker and managing director of Taylors Wines, Mitchell Taylor said that he was delighted that the winery was recognized internationally - despite the challenges faced by the industry in recent years.

"With some of the difficult conditions, particularly in As for the drought, with international markets like China [being] cut off in the past, it really highlighted all the hard work we put into creating this wine and this blend,” Taylor said. /p>

He said the family winery prides itself on offering excellent value wines.

"It is extremely important to us to have an affordable price so that most of our customers can find [our wines] widely distributed throughout Australia and in our main export markets."South Australian wineries reap gold

Taylors Wines was not the only winery recognized at the global event.

A total of 43 Gold Medals have been won by Australian wineries, all from South Australia.

Mr. Taylor said it was a testament to the high quality and diversity of South Africa's wine regions.

"We [SA] produce about 60-70% of all Australian wine. And it's really our cool climate regions that really have that great quality and distinctiveness," he said.

"We have the fruity flavors that are truly noticed on the world stage."
