Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's golf master plan to include 'six teams' in LIV fightback

New details have emerged regarding the planned adventure of golf icons Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, who have teamed up to reimagine the future of the sport.

The pair unveiled their new joint venture, named TMRW Sports, this week amid turbulent times for the sport of golf. Now, the duo have released a promotional video for "TGL," a PGA Tour partnership project that will bring an all-new format to golf, as well as a new viewing experience.

Woods and McIlroy have become strong supporters of the PGA Tour following the recent threat from the Saudi-backed breakaway LIV, and now the new concept is set to shake up the sport even more.

Reports on Wednesday confirmed that part of Woods and McIlroy's new venture plans will include 15 prime-time games on Monday nights in a "technology-infused environment", featuring six three-man teams from the circuit.

The move is seen as a direct response to the innovation of the LIV Golf Series, which paired PGA Tour stars into teams for their new format, which includes shotgun tournament tee times and no cuts.

As part of Woods and McIlroy's plan, the tech-infused element includes a virtual short game complex as one of the competing aspects.

A promotional video for the new project stated that the competitions would take place over two-hour periods, in an arena and streamed live for a "primetime showdown".

The announcement comes on the heels of a proposed reshuffle within the PGA Tour, after Tour President Jay Monahan sent a letter to all registered athletes regarding new proposals.

In an effort to combat the rise of LIV golf and the seemingly endless wealth the Saudi initiative is poised to inject into the sport, the financial elements of the PGA Tour have been beefed up, now including a payout of $5,000 for missed discounts.

Monahan's letter also indicated that there would now be an added incentive to go to the Tour Championship, which now comes with a two-year exemption.

In addition, it has been proposed that there will no longer be a 15-season minimum for lifetime membership, meaning that close friend and protege of recent McIlroy and Woods winners, Justin Thomas, will have it immediately.
