Tinted moisturizers: 10 of the best

You'll notice a number of the products here aren't literally called "tinted moisturizers." But for all intents and purposes, they are. Think of them as kids in love with moisturizer and foundation. Of course, it's not a particularly new idea - Laura Mercier introduced the concept to the world in 1996. What's new, however, is how far they've evolved since then. The original point of a tinted moisturizer was to provide a super lightweight, barely there foundation that had skincare properties. It was/is ideal for people uncomfortable with heavy foundations, people looking for a lighter foundation to wear in hot weather, and people with dry or dehydrated skin. The problem was that the range of shades was so pitiful that it excluded a good portion of people wearing makeup. This has changed. Fenty's offer alone comes in 25 shades. The formulations on the market are now also more considered; yes, they help boost hydration, but many are also infused with antioxidants and SPF, which protect skin from sun damage and are also helpful for people with pigmentation issues. These fancier iterations understand that while many want a lightweight, skin-like finish, they also want good coverage. Which sounds like an oxymoron, but with this new breed of tinted moisturizers, it's possible. Thus, everyone can now get what they want in a base.
