Tommy Dorfman is engaged! The "13 Reasons Why" actress broke the news of her engagement on Rachel Bilson's "Broad Ideas" podcast released Aug. 15, in which she also opened up about how booking the aforementioned Netflix series delayed her transition. While talking about administering estrogen injections, Dorfman casually mentioned that his "fiancée" helped her in the beginning and guided her through the process. Although she did not reveal the identity of her partner, she named him as the person she wants to spend the rest of her life with.

"It's a statement, for sure. But not sure either because being in love is so scary."

Dorfman, who recently celebrated her 30th birthday, said her partner was the "first woman [she's] been with in a very long time." "It's affirmative, for sure," she said of her relationship. "But also not sure because being in love is so scary. So uncomfortable and so painful. All of the universal feelings of being in love that I have are probably the same." She explained that while she knew she had been interested in women since high school, she hadn't really explored those feelings. Before meeting her current partner, she thought to herself, "This is the year I'm going to date girls and feel that again without being ashamed of it."

The actress also revealed that she was initially "really afraid to admit" that she was attracted to women because she had what she described as strong and secure relationships with all women of her life who previously considered her a gay man. "When I fell in love, heterosexual cis women were my closest friends, and they were the people I cared about the most, and they were the people who cared the least."

Dorfman was married to Peter Zurkuhlen for five years until they filed for divorce in February 2022. The two reportedly first met in 2005 through a mutual friend, and 11 years later, they married in Portland, ME.
