Legendary singer Tony Bennett, best known for singing "I Left My Heart in San Francisco", sadly passed away Friday, July 21 at his New York home after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. The Grammy-winning artist was 96, just two weeks shy of his birthday.

In 2021, Tony and his wife, Susan Crow, shared that he struggled with dementia that is. "There are a lot of things about him that I miss," Susan said at the time. "Because he's not the old Tony anymore. But when he sings, he's the old Tony. Amazingly, Tony had been diagnosed in 2016, but he managed to keep his declining health a secret from the public by continuing to perform on stage.

In 1951, Tony made his show business debut by releasing his first single, "Because of You", then in 1962 he released one of his most beloved tracks, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco". Throughout his legendary career, he has won 20 Grammy Awards, including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. And to top it all off, in 1994, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" was rightly honored and found its way into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

But he wasn't done entertaining the masses yet. In 2014, at the age of 88, Tony broke his own record as the oldest living performer with a #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart for Cheek to Cheek, his duet project with Lady Gaga. The dynamic duo released their second collaborative album Love for Sale in 2021.

In addition to all of his incredible accolades, Tony was extremely proud to be a family man. The father of four opened up about it in a 2016 interview with Forbes. "Personally, my four children and my seven grandchildren are what make me proud," he said of his accomplishments.
