A MP has revealed she has been wearing a bulletproof vest during constituency operations since the murder of her colleague Sir David Amess.

Virginia Crosbie, the Tory MP for Ynys Mon in Wales, has also warned that the scale of abuse faced by politicians is getting worse.

Last year Ali Harbi Ali, 26, was convicted of murdering veteran MP Sir David while on the job.

Just a fortnight before the 2016 EU referendum, Labor MP Jo Cox was also murdered in her constituency of Batley and Spen.

Following the 2021 murder of Sir David and wearing panic alarms for surgeries.

Now Tory MP Ms Crossbie has told GB News: 'I've been in difficult situations.

"I have surgeries, I do face-to-face surgeries where I wear a knife jacket, obviously following the murder of David Amess".

She added, "And also, I also have security protection. I think it's important that I have direct contact with my constituents.

"And, unfortunately, that's one of the things I have to do to make sure I can actually do the job I was elected to do."

Tory MP James Sunderland also told The Times he feared Sir David and Ms Cox “wouldn’t be the last”.

"God forbid it happens again, but it's a matter of when, not if, and what we need to do is do everything in our power to prepare for those situations. ."

Ms Crosbie, who was first elected in December 2019, has previously spoken about the threats and abuse she has received, and said things have not improved for MPs.
