Animoca Brands co-founder and president Yat Siu urged more developers to enter the Web3 space, warning that without “choice” there can be no “decentralized environment.”< /p>

Speaking to Cointelegraph during Korean Blockchain Week (KBW) 2022, Sui stressed that more developers need to enter the space to provide consumers with more alternatives when it comes to the platform of their choosing - which could be based on "best value" or whichever they associate with most culturally.

"We need as many choices of layer 1 and layer 2 [...] or creative companies so that they [crypto users] have a choice between each other's machine code […] so we have the desire to create many alternatives.

Siu noted that while developers were enthusiastic about creating software applications, many continued to "struggle under the yoke of centralized platforms" such as Apple and Google, forcing developers to "exist by [their] rules".

Siu also noted that while many developers aren't necessarily "blockchain savvy", "they are excited" to move into the space, again emphasizing the need for more developers to come into space in order to offer more options to Web3 users:

"The fact that I don't have an alternative to Facebook is why Facebook is a monopoly. But if it was on a blockchain, I could transmit data freely, there could be [different] Facebooks. So I might choose to use Facebook which gives me the best value."

Asked whether blockchain developers should focus on competition or collaboration, Yiu pointed out that he "doesn't want [Web3 projects] to go wrong" because that would mean that "we have less choice".

The Animoca Brands executive also argued that it would be much more sustainable for a variety of Web3 projects to capture their fair share of the market than a few Web3 projects dominating the space:

"They can support themselves on a lot less [...] some of these blockchain [projects] have between 500,000 and a million [users] [and] they still have a sustainable framework and that creates a alternative, and this is important for a free and decentralized environment.”
