A study has found that the land of kebabs and carpets is the cheapest place in Europe to enjoy a pint this summer.

A pint of lager costs just £1.48, thanks to the soaring pound against the lira.

A pound could be exchanged for only seven liras in 2019, but it is now worth more than 20.

The average price of a pint in Britain is £4.10 nationwide and well over £5 in the South. But pints are most expensive in Scandinavia, peaking in Norway at £8.

The firm's Zoe Harris said: "The cost of living in Turkey is incredibly low compared to the UK and with the pound getting stronger and stronger against the Turkish lira, it's is now one of the most affordable stays."

Turkey's popularity is skyrocketing: around 2.5 million Britons travel there every year, with the resorts of Antalya, Dalaman, Izmir and Bodrum being the most popular.

Hotel beds can cost as little as £9 a night and a meal in a basic restaurant can cost a pound, with a three-course meal in a mid-range restaurant costing you between £3 and £5 £.
