Two men have been charged with the murder of footballer Cody Fisher in a stabbing attack at a Birmingham nightclub.

Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, will appear in court on Monday, charged with murder and affray.

The Birmingham couple have been taken into custody ahead of a hearing at Birmingham Magistrates Court.

Cody died of his injuries after being stabbed on the dance floor of Crane nightclub in Digbeth on Boxing Day.

The venue has since had its license suspended.

Chief Detective Inspector Ian Ingram of our Homicide Unit said: "This is an important development in our investigation as we seek justice for Cody, his family and friends. .

"We have received fantastic support from the public which has really helped us in our investigations so far.

“However, we are always very keen to hear from anyone with information who has not already spoken to us. Every piece of information helps our investigation.”

A family statement earlier this week read, "They broke our hearts; I lost my best friend.

"My family and I ask for your privacy and respect at this heartbreaking time."

Cody's heartbroken girlfriend, Jess, called him "everyone, the love of my life, my best friend".

She wrote online: "My poor baby. I'm so sorry this happened to you.
