Train drivers from eight railway companies will strike on Saturday July 30 to protest wages, their union Aslef has announced.

Aslef members at Arriva Rail London, Chiltern Railways, Greater Anglia, Great Western, Hull Trains, LNER, Southeastern and West Midlands Trains will be released on July 30.

Drivers in Greater Anglia will also strike on July 23, and Hull train drivers will strike on July 16 and 23.

Today's announcement comes in addition to strikes announced yesterday by the RMT and TSSA unions for Wednesday July 27, disrupting the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

This 24-hour shutdown by the RMT union over wages, conditions and job cuts - after a three-day strike last month - came as bosses rejected a 'miserable' offer for a pay rise. 4% salary.

The RMT strike will apply to 14 rail operating companies as well as Network Rail, crippling services across the length of the country.

It will start at 2:00 a.m. on July 27 in Network Rail and at 0:01 a.m. on July 27 in all 14 rail companies. Each action will last 24 hours.

In addition to the above, Avanti West Coast TSSA members will also hold a day strike on Wednesday July 27, the union announced last night.

Aslef's general secretary, Mick Whelan, said the rail companies had been "dishonest and dishonourable", while senior RMT officer Eddie Dempsey accused Transport Secretary Grant Shapps of "inflammatory comments".
