UK weather: high temperatures continue

Summer may finally be here as forecasters predict a warm and sunny day on Wednesday before temperatures soar to 32°C in the coming days.

Experts have predicted parts of England could see searing highs by next week as Monday is set to see the mercury soar in some areas, with the south east expected to be the hottest part from England. This comes after the washout weather marked the summer months with heavy rains and thunderstorms across the country.

On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to hit the mid-20s for much of the southern half of the UK, with even warmer weather expected to peak on Friday and Saturday, according to the Met Office. Some areas could even see temperatures reach 30°C on Friday.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris said a "general warming trend" is expected for much of the week. He added: "While parts of the south are already expected to hit the mid-20s by Wednesday, it's not until Thursday that the warmer weather will become widespread.

"We are likely to see the warmest weather on Friday and Saturday, with low temperatures to mid-20s widely and a peak of 29C most likely in the southeast. At this point, the odd 30C here Friday cannot be ruled out.A frontal system arriving in the West and Southwest later Friday, which could be preceded by thunderstorms, complicates things somewhat, after a very wet night in the Southeast until Saturday."

That would mean parts of the UK would be warmer than California, which is only expected to reach 26°C. However, Met Office forecaster Dan Stroud said any heat is likely to be short-lived as low pressure is likely to return, making next weekend more unsettled.

UK weather forecast Today:

Early fog dissipating soon to give way to a beautiful day, with lots of sunny spells. However, there will be occasional cloudier skies towards Scotland and North East England. A few light showers are possible, mainly towards the northeast. Warm.

This evening:

Tonight will remain dry with sunny spells for many. A few low clouds developing in parts of Scotland and perhaps some fog patches elsewhere. T...
