UK Weather: Heavy showers across the country

Britons could be in the throes of a heatwave in early September with high temperatures predicted to reach 28C, but experts have warned ahead of then of heavy downpours.

Today the Met Office forecast heavy showers over much of the country as well as sunny spells and cloudiness in parts. This follows a dry spell with thunderstorms and heavy rain covering many parts of the UK.

But other forecasts predict a heat wave for early September, with WXCharts predicting high temperatures between September 2 and September 11, reaching up to 28°C in some areas. However, temperatures are not expected to be higher everywhere as Wales and Scotland are expected to remain cool.

The Met Office, meanwhile, said in its own forecast: 'Showers for many on Friday and these could be heavy, but will remain largely dry across Scotland. Generally becoming dry more extensively over the weekend with increasing amounts of sunshine. /p>

From Monday September 4th to Wednesday September 13th, the forecaster said: "Many parts of the UK are expected to start this period with generally dry conditions, some sunshine and light winds, particularly in the south.< /p>

"The North West will often be more cloudy and windy with heavy showers. For much of this period high pressures appear to be near for much of the UK, with central parts enjoying the best of the weather nice and dry, although with lighter winds there is room for mist and fog overnight."

This comes after the Met Office released a new update on the potential for an Indian summer in September, amid a disastrous summer for the UK. Forecasters have shared the latest news on the Met Office website after a gloomy period between June and August marked by heavy rain and storms.

In writing dated September 14, the Met Office said: "During the second half of September, the essentially stable situation is expected to continue, although southern areas are likely to remain at risk of showers and occasional thunderstorms Over time, the high pressures may shift or develop further north or east, increasing the likelihood of an easterly flow which, combined with lower pressure to the south or south west of the UK, could bring above average rainfall to eastern regions."

But there is also hope for a plume of warmer weather, continue meteorologists. “In the meantime, western regions could end up being a little drier than normal. It could prove quite warm for late September, with overall temperatures likely to be slightly above average,” add -they. UK weather forecast Today:

Clouds and rain will move slowly northeast over England, Wales and Northern Ireland during the day. Scotland and North East England will remain mostly dry with sunny spells. Feeling cool under clouds and rain, although wet in South West England later.

This evening:

New outbreaks of rain, sometimes heavy, in southern England and Wales. Mainly cloudy elsewhere, with a few showers at times. It's chilly under the clearest sky in North East Scotland.

Friday:

Often cloudy with scattered showers. Heavy showers over central and south-east England. Best of all sunshine, probably across Scotland. Rather humid in the south.
