Climate campaigners are outraged after learning that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, King Charles and Foreign Secretary David Cameron all took separate private jets to to travel to the Cop28 conference in Dubai.

Number 10 defended the decision to have Mr Sunak and Lord Cameron travel separately – as it was confirmed the junior ministers and civil servants would take commercial flights rather than traveling with the Prime Minister's entourage.

But opposition parties and campaigners have accused Mr Sunak of climate hypocrisy - criticizing the use of separate planes as "a terrible example” and a “waste of taxpayers’ money”.

Todd Smith, spokesman for Extinction Rebellion (XR), said Mr Sunak and Lord Cameron “set a terrible example” and “protected the interests of their rich friends”.

The campaigner said three in four Britons would not need to change their flying habits to reach net zero. . "It's just a small minority of private jet users, frequent flyers and first class travelers who are ruining the lives of the rest of us."
