Want to attract top talent? Eight lessons to remember until 2023

Although it began in early 2021, the Great Resignation and resulting shift in attitude toward the workplace was still widespread throughout 2022. candidates or they didn't failed to attract the talent they needed to keep operations running smoothly.

With 2023 in full swing, employers have the opportunity to start fresh and reconsider or revamp their hiring and recruiting strategies to ensure a successful year. To share their own insights, eight members of the Young Entrepreneur Council each share a major lesson they learned last year on how to attract top talent and how continuing that lesson through 2023 can help you build the best team for your business.

1. Show candidates they have room to grow

A crucial lesson I learned in 2022 about recruiting is that you need to give your team the opportunity to grow. When you hire people and expect them to stay in one place for years, friction will ensue. If you want to attract top talent, show potential candidates how they can grow and learn once they start working for your company, then track and deliver on your promises. - John Brackett, Smash Balloon LLC

2. Cast a wide net

If you're used to finding talent in one or two places (like LinkedIn or a particular job board), expand your network. You never know where to find the best employees. This could be through referrals, job fairs, connections to college career centers, or more niche-specific groups and job boards. Don't limit yourself to the same methods and platforms you've used in the past. - Kalin Kassabov, ProTexting

3. Offer flexibility and autonomy

In 2022, I learned that the best talents choose companies where they can work where they want, when they want. People find it incredibly motivating that their employer trusts and respects them enough to offer them flexibility in their work. Not only does this give employees greater control over their lives, but it also helps boost morale. - Syed Balkhi, WPBeginner

4. Make diversity a priority

One of the most important things employees demand from companies is diversity and inclusion. They require companies to ensure that an organization is a mix of ages, cultures and backgrounds. A diverse workforce has historically been very advantageously put in place. Top talent see diversity and inclusion as a "must-have" rather than just a nice company to have. -
