A seafood warehouse worker was crushed to death by an elevator in a freak accident on his birthday.

Julio Armando Buelvas Salinas was coming to the end of his shift and was looking forward to celebrating with his family and friends when he was killed.

The 26-year-old logistics assistant was transporting stock to a cold room when an elevator used to transport products and work tools fell on him.

It is understood that he used the elevator himself to move between floors.

His colleagues rushed to help but it was too late, the young man apparently died instantly.

When police arrived at the Comerpes SA processing building in Cartagena, Colombia on Friday, April 14, Julio's body was still trapped between the elevator and the floor.
