Police are investigating a series of needle-stick incidents at a popular tourist hotspot.

Police in Mallorca and Ibiza are investigating a total of six incidents after three women said they were pricked with a needle.

Three others filed similar complaints, but chose not to press charges.

Spokesperson for the Civil Guard of the Balearic Islands: "We are investigating four cases in Ibiza and two in Mallorca.

"We have received three formal complaints."

A source said: "There is no evidence at this stage to indicate that any of the women were drugged or allegations of robbery or sexual assault after the alleged needle attacks, but the investigations are ongoing."

UK police forces have recorded at least 2,436 cases of spikes between 2017 and 2021 and 839 of them occurred in the last year alone.

A report recently suggested creating a specific doping-related criminal offense in the UK to address the problem.

In July, the UK government highlighted in the report that although "there is not enough data to provide a clear picture of its true scale and motives", it would remain an "invisible crime in unless more is done to improve victim awareness and support."
