Watch the magic happen at iBuild Academy Maker Camp

As our summer of Maker Camp 2022 draws to a close, at Make: we want to highlight some of the amazing programs being run by campsites. Today we celebrate iBuild Academy in Orange City, Florida. Here are some thoughts from Dr. Sue Bedard, Executive Director.

This summer, iBuild Academy, Inc offered its STEM enrichment program for children ages 6-15. Each week, we trained 25 kids with all kinds of creative space ideas. For many children, this was their first experience of designing and building. With the help of the Maker Camp program, we were able to teach soldering, solar-powered cooking, programming with Makey Makey and micro:bit, and all types of building projects with motors and lights. We even built a miniature golf course out of cardboard.

What we love most about bringing these experiences to kids is the creativity that comes from a relatively simple idea. We help them start the process, then they can add their own touch to complete the build or challenge. Don't worry about the project being perfect, let the kids build and create and watch the magic happen. As one camper said, "This is the best camp ever!"
