David Lowery has released one of the most acclaimed films of 2021 with 'The Green Knight', a magnificent adaptation of Sir Gawain's tale in Arthurian legend. Now, Lowery has returned to his version of Camelot with "Oak Thorn & The Old Rose of Love," a short film exclusively made for the collector's edition of the original Blu-ray movie.

The 20-minute film stars Jackie Earle Haley and Sylvia Hoeks as the two main characters, entities with great knowledge who begin to share their knowledge with each other. Although the story has no explicit connection to the original "Green Knight", which starred Dev Patel as Gawain, the film takes place in the same beautifully rendered version of Camelot seen in the original film. Lowery and is based on an Arthurian tale.

Lowery shot the short over the summer, and in an interview with said it would never be legally released online, saying, "I had already thought about adapting that particular story, and as we were finding ways to make the Blu-ray extra special, I thought it would be nice to have a companion movie on the disc. I love physical media and I loved the idea of ​​having this short film that doesn't would ever be released online, which would only be available on the big screen or on this disc. I'm sure someone will rip it right away, but in theory this short is a purely physical object."

The Collector's Edition "The Green Knight" is available for pre-order on the A24 online store. In addition to "Oak Thorn & The Old Rose of Love", the Blu-ray also includes a commentary track by Lowery, a behind-the-scenes documentary on the production, a short documentary on the film's score, featurettes exploring VFX from the film and costumes and deleted scenes. The Blu-ray also comes with a book featuring an excerpt from the original poem "Sir Gawain and The Green Knight" with annotations by Lowery and costume sketches by film designer Malgosia Turzanska. The Blu-ray Collector's Edition will be available from November 30.
