Rishi Sunak is set to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in a matter of days. Sunak was defeated for the government's top job by Liz Truss on September 5, but resigned after 45 days in office. So far, it looks like his selection for the office is good news for the crypto industry.

Sunak served as Chancellor of the Exchequer, or Head of the Treasury, from early 2020 until July 5, when he stepped down amid a scandal that rocked Boris Johnson's government. Meanwhile, Sunak has repeatedly voiced his support for crypto. Speaking in April on the stablecoin-related regulatory reform proposal, Sunak said:

"I have the ambition to make the UK a global hub for crypto-asset technology, and the measures we have outlined [...] will help ensure businesses can invest, innovate and grow in this country. This is part of our plan to ensure that the UK's financial services industry is always at the forefront of technology and innovation."
