Web3 Gamer: Earn Bitcoins in Minecraft, BGA 50/50 Gender Split, Oath of Peak Hot Plug

Minecraft gets the Bitcoin treatment

It seems like Minecraft has been around since the invention of computers, and there's a reason for that. In addition to its official free updates, which provide additional content, the Minecraft ecosystem has an incredibly active community, helping it stay up to date. Thanks to the open gameplay of the game, a lot of content created by the community is available.

Have you completed the standard game content? So why not relive the industrial revolution with bespoke mods? Or enter a contest to see who can build a construction first against hundreds of others? There's a server for that. Pokemon in Minecraft? Pixelmon!

What if you want to earn Bitcoin in Minecraft? Welp, you can even do it now.

Bitcoin integration for Minecraft with Satlantis and Zebedee partnership.

Players can earn Bitcoin in Minecraft thanks to the partnership between Zebedee and Satlantis. (Zebedee)

A community-run Minecraft server called "Satlantis" has Zebedee's gaming technology that allows players to earn Bitcoin by completing in-game quests inspired by real-life BTC mining. Server players can join in-game mining pools, collect ASICs (popular hardware suitable for Bitcoin mining) and increase their hash rate to earn block rewards. What a great way to educate mainstream players on the basics of Bitcoin!

Players can withdraw their winnings on Zebedee's app, where they can spend their winnings on other games made by the company or move them to exchanges that support Bitcoin's Lightning Layer 2 Network.

Don't expect to buy a Lambo with the revenue from building pixel wonders. The server will distribute a total of 1 million satoshis – or one hundred millionth of BTC – per week. That's about $300 a week divided by god knows how many people. Although it's not much, it's a start that could become a trend.

The Bitcoin-compatible integration is unofficial, and neither Satlantis nor Zebedee are affiliated with Minecraft developer Mojang Studios. The studio itself is pretty low on Web3, previously having Minecraft NFT integrations. Time will show how this integration holds up to the ban.

Blockchain Game Alliance steps up diversity efforts

Diversity is a surprisingly new topic in the world of video games. Most major publishers hadn't even released a diversity report as recently as 2021. In 2022, Activision Blizzard itself has five long years to reach its goal of 50% female and non-binary employees.

Members of the Blockchain Game Alliance, a key organization that promotes Web3 and blockchain gaming, have voted to install an equal board of directors, made up of three men and three women. And the newly elected BGA Board of 2023 is made up of all new faces.
