At the UN, Zelensky calls Russia an implacable threat

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used his speech yesterday to the United Nations General Assembly to warn that Russia's aggression would not stop at Ukraine's borders.

< p class="css-at9mc1 evys1bk0">“The aim of the current war against Ukraine is to transform our land, our people, our lives, our resources into a weapon against you, against the international order based on rules,” Zelensky told the leaders. He added that Russia was using essentials like food and energy "not only against our country, but against yours as well."

His remarks were among the most scathing. in a series of speeches delivered by world leaders at this year's gathering. Hours earlier, President Biden condemned Russia's "naked aggression" and said the United States would continue to stand with the "brave Ukrainian people."

If the world appeases Russia, Biden asked, "can any member state of this body have the assurance of being protected? If we allow Ukraine to be divided, is the independence of a nation assured? »

Biden sought to counter war weariness, both at home and abroad, even as House Republicans returned. Washington is delaying additional military aid to Ukraine and neutral countries around the world are staying away from, or even facilitating, the Kremlin invasion.
