Rishi Sunak is the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after winning the support of the vast majority of the Conservative parliamentary party to be named their new leader, after taking up the challenge of Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt.

Mr. Sunak is a familiar face having served as Chancellor to Boris Johnson throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, when he led the £69billion furlough scheme to keep people in work and the (possibly reckless) Eat Out to Help Our campaign to encourage economic growth.

He was also criticized during this time after being caught up in the 'Partygate' fury, for which he received a penalty notice fixed, following revelations about his wealthy family's tax strategies and for his unpopular spring statement earlier this year, which was deemed insufficient to protect the public from a worsening cost of living crisis. p>

Mr. Sunak has also not been forgiven by many Tories for 'turning on' Mr Johnson, as well as Health Secretary Sajid Javid, when the couple quit in early July following the Chris Pincher scandal, which sparked the deluge that eventually led to the departure of more than 60 ministers and eventually forced the Prime Minister to resign.

This sentiment is said to have been the cause of his defeat during this summer's long leadership race to replace Mr Johnson, which was ultimately won by Liz Truss.

More positively for Mr Sunak, the disastrous nature of his tenure as Prime Minister of six weeks proved that all of his criticisms of his “fairytale” economic policies were right on the money, giving him the legitimacy to win favor the second time round and hopefully appease the world financial markets that have so lost faith in the Gra Britain under Mrs. Truss.

Mr. Sunak was born in Southampton on May 12, 1980, his parents Yashvir and U sha Sunak, respectively general practitioner and pharmacist, the couple are from East Africa with roots in Punjab, India.
