Will Deadpool 3 be rated R now that Disney is involved? Here's what we know

Fortunately, part of Disney's acquisition of Fox was continuing to retain 20th Century Studios as a separate brand, which would allow for R-rated projects. This means that while "Deadpool 3" will part of the MCU, the film will not follow the same rating requirements. The film's co-writer spoke to The Playlist about the film's rating to assure everyone that there will be no watering down of the material. "It's those [Disney] people and those people do things their way," Rhett Reese said. "And we used to do things our own way, so there are differences, but I think the biggest thing is that Marvel has been incredibly supportive." He continued: "They're going to let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know? It's not like any particular joke is the one they say, 'You know, that's too far', it could happen, but until 'now it was nothing but support."

In a delightful surprise, Reese said the folks at Disney/Marvel are extremely open to collaboration, offering elements of the established MCU if needed. "We're not...it's not going to be Disney's Deadpool," Reese said. "So they're great, and now it's up to us to come to grips and vindicate that faith." Reese also directly addressed the R-rating debate and has no doubt that the film will continue the trend of the first two films. "Oh, absolutely. They're not going to mess with the tone. I mean, I would never say never, I guess there's an outside chance, but we've always been told it could be R and we're proceeding like if it's R," he said. "We would like it to be R, we always have, so I don't think that will change."
