A young woman was found dead the day before her execution by stoning, local media reported.

The 24-year-old was sentenced to death by stoning last week after the Taliban caught her on a walk with a man who was not a member of her family.

New Taliban rules state that women seeking to travel long distances are not permitted to travel by road unless accompanied by a close male relative.

According to local sources who preferred not to be named for security reasons, the man's name is Sirajuddin, from Sirzaar village in Dolina district and the woman, Salima, is from Berinji village in the same district.

Sirajuddin and Salima reportedly ran away from home on October 10 to get married, Rukshana media reported.

However, they were quickly stopped by Taliban forces who shot and killed Sirajuddin and captured Salima.

Salima was sentenced to death by stoning for adultery, which was to take place on Friday, October 14.

Three local sources confirmed to Rukhshana Media that Salima was found dead in an apparent hanging on Thursday and buried the following day.

Abolfida Ghor Badri, Taliban Spokesperson for Ghor Police Chief, confirmed Sirajuddin's death by Taliban forces to Rukshana Media.
