A landlord unwittingly became the legal owner of an entire neighborhood of 84 homes after a 'copy-and-paste' typing error saw her recover $50 million worth of property by mistake.

The woman spent $594,481 (£489,617.23) on her dream home, but when filing the paperwork she was told a major mistake appeared to have occurred and the name of the house included 84 additional properties and two common areas.

She was told that documents showed she legally owned "lots 1 through 85...and common areas A and B". Many houses had already been sold before the error.

The entire estate in the district is worth around $50 million (£40,865,550.00).

The developers believe it will be easy to rectify the error and recover the properties, but warn that "someone might try to make it difficult".

The anonymous owner, from Nevada, spent her money on what she thought was just a property in Sparks, northeast of Reno, and filed her paperwork with the county assessor of Washoe, before the error was detected on July 25.

Cori Burke, Washoe County's Deputy Chief Assessor, said it appeared to be a typo by Westminster Title, a Las Vegas-based company, the Daily Star reports.< /p>

The huge accident meant the owner ended up receiving the title deeds of dozens of others as well, reports the Reno Gazette Journal.

Burke added: "It appears that Westminster Title of Las Vegas copied and pasted a legal description of another Toll Brothers transfer when preparing the (buyer's) deed for registration.
