Worcestershire spin bowler Josh Baker has died aged 20.< /p>

Baker has made two appearances in the County Championship this season, the last against Durham at Kidderminster in April.

The left-armer made his first-class debut in 2021 and played 47 matches across all formats, taking 70 wickets.

"The news of Josh's death has devastated us all," the Worcestershire chief executive said. Ashley Giles.

The club has not said how Baker died.

He played in a County Second XI match this week against Somerset at Bromsgrove School, taking three wickets on Wednesday after wet conditions made play impossible on the first two days.

Worcestershire first was an integral part of our cricket family,” added former England player and coach Giles.

“We will all miss him terribly. prayers are with Josh's family and friends."

Born in Redditch, Baker came through the ranks at New Road and represented England at under 19 years old. level.

He signed a three-year contract last year, after recovering from a back injury he suffered in 2022 , and played five league matches to help Worcestershire win. promotion from Championship Division 2.

A club statement said: "More than his skills as a spin bowler, it is his dynamic and his contagious enthusiasm which attracted the attention of everyone he met.
