The second tallest roller coaster in the world has been closed months after a woman was seriously injured when a mental hook flew in her face.

Rachel Hawes, 45, of Michigan, screamed in pain as she was rushed to hospital after being struck by the object while enjoying the mega 420-foot ride.< /p>

She fought for her life after the L-shaped bracket hit her in the head during a visit to Cedar Point Amusement Park in the town of Sandusky, Ohio, Ohio. August 2021.

The object broke away from one of the carriages of the 420-foot-tall Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster and the attraction was closed while an investigation was conducted.

But now it has been announced that it will never reopen, according to the DailyStar report.

A statement read: "After 19 seasons of operation with 18 million riders having experienced the world's first strata coaster, Top Thrill Dragster, as you know, is retired.

“However, Cedar Point's legacy of driving innovation continues. Our team works hard to create a new and reimagined driving experience. »

A strata coaster is the term used to describe any full-circuit roller coaster between 400 and 499 feet in height.
