'Yellow Vests': Samantha Hanratty Reveals Why She Hasn't Seen 'Steel Magnolias' Yet Despite Misty's Pivotal Scene

Spoiler alert: This story contains spoilers for "Digestive", the third episode of " Yellowjackets” Season 2, now airing on Showtime.

From destroying the only way out of the team's wilderness in the past to the conducting citizen police investigations in the present, Misty Quigley's ambitions are still an attempt to deepen her relationships - going from being a misfit to an unwitting laughingstock - and becoming an essential member of the football team at the center of Showtime's "Yellowjackets".

As played by actress Samantha Hanratty, in "Digestive," teenage Misty even surpasses his Season 1 antics, with a particularly quirky escapist moment. As the girls grapple with their final decision, to feast on their late teammate Jackie, they prepare for the birth of Shauna's (Sophie Nélisse) baby. They decide to celebrate and throw Shauna an impromptu baby shower. But with limited resources, Misty, with guidance from her new "best friend" Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman), gives Shauna a unique gift: she decides to deliver Sally Field's iconic monologue from "Steel Magnolias". /p>

Speaking with Variety, Hanratty reveals she has yet to seen "Steel Magnolias," the 1989 movie that inspired the most unconventional baby shower gift. Though I haven't seen it, even now! — Hanratty watched the scene several times to make sure that she could combine Misty's comedic perception with the character's absolute sincerity.

Had you watched "Steel Magnolias" before receiving the script?

Oh my God, I didn't. I still have to watch it. I've only heard amazing things, and I can't wait to watch them.

It's a very intimidating monologue and it's a very intimidating scene. I feel like I would have been even more nervous if I had seen the whole movie. I was deciding whether to watch it or not, and I just decided to watch this scene a few times. On YouTube, I watched about six times. I didn't want to be too specific, because I didn't want to be like she knew too much. But at the same time, when you think of your favorite movies, I feel like a lot of us are able to recite really big parts. We all have our memories that we remember, and that happens to be Misty's cup of tea.
