Yorkshire: ECB disciplinary hearings to be held in public

Headingley

The E The England and Wales Cricket Board Disciplinary Committee has said hearings will take place from November 28.

This decision is unprecedented: the Cricket Disciplinary Commission generally operates in private.

Yorkshire and seven others have been charged following claims made by Azeem Rafiq.

Former Yorkshire spinner Rafiq first detailed the allegations in September 2020, saying racism at the club had made him suicidal.

"Following a preliminary hearing last month, the Cricket Disciplinary Committee concluded that the hearing on the charges against Yorkshire County Cricket Club and a number of individuals will be held in public," the ECB said.

"The parties involved have the right to appeal this your decision. Hearings are scheduled to begin November 28 and more details on how to access will be released in due course."

Hearings are expected to begin in late November.

Gale has previously said he will not engage in the process. In September, he and Pyrah agreed compensation with Yorkshire after their dismissals" unfair".

The hearings will take place one year after ECB Director General Tom Harrison told the select committee of the number ic, culture, media and sport in November 2021 that English cricket was approaching an 'emergency' due to its failure to tackle racism and that the ECB had 'struggled' to get the game first class to "wake up".

When the committee's report was released, Chairman Julian Knight MP described Rafiq's story as "typical of a problem endemic in all of cricket".

Since the Rafiq's accusations became public, 16 staff left Yorkshire in a widespread overhaul of its senior management.

In June, the ECB announced that it had conducted a "thorough and complex" investigation to establish the grounds for the charges against the county and those involved.

He said the charges arose out of alleged breaches of a directive relating to "conduct that is inappropriate or likely to harm the interests of cricket or likely to discredit the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer", and its anti-discrimination code.< /p>
