"What do you consider to be the main differentiators between those who achieve their goals and those who don't ?" I was asked this question recently, and it was an opportunity to really think about what makes a person successful. For me, there are 13 key elements. Successful people:

Define success for themselves first. By doing so, they can then steer their steps in that direction, not being left behind by the stats of others.

Align with others who have similar goals and values and prioritize connection and community. You become the average of the company you keep, so they keep good company.

Overcome the fear of trying things they've never done before. They know it's the only way to grow and become the person they hope to be.

Redirect their relationship toward failure, knowing that you can't fail if you keep going, and if you never make mistakes, you don't push yourself.

Are teachable, open-minded and curious. Life is a classroom for them and they are insatiable to learn.

Ask for the support they need, even when it feels uncomfortable.

Connect with their intuition and inner voice like a GPS to guide them.

Desire to grow more than wishing to stay comfortable or feel stagnant.

Understand that progress is often a slow accumulation of small victories.

Allow time for rest, recovery, celebration and play.

Dig into their mindsets and inner narratives for greater self-understanding, then unlearn what doesn't serve them and create more beneficial thought patterns.

Stay open for life to introduce them to opportunities that may not be on the agenda, but could be even better.

Find people who have been where they are going and enroll them in their mission as coaches, advisors, mentors and friends.

As you go through this list, do you find yourself nodding your head more often than thinking, "that's definitely not me"? Is there an area you could focus on a little more to help you get closer to your goals?
