Eufy is one of my favorite choices for residential security cameras without subscriptionso I was interested in what the brand would reveal for Anker Day on Thursday. One announcement immediately caught my attention: Eufy is launching a new AI agent called EdgeAgent that will exist locally on a new companion device called Smart Security Shield.
The smart safety shield is a sensor and a camera with a 180 degree field of view and equipped with digital security key technology to prevent unauthorized access. It is primarily designed for outdoor use, where the built-in AI chipset uses facial recognition to identify friends and family up to 100 feet away. Eufy says the device will work with several of the company’s hardware and service offerings.
Because EdgeAgent is completely local, it does not need to exchange data with online servers. Eufy claims this makes AI processing 63% faster than competitors’ cloud-based systems, reducing delays to just seconds.
EdgeAgent will be able to process data and activate specific security measures based on its analysis, such as turn on a projectorby giving a voice warning or sending an alert to a phone, including a text description of what the camera sensor detects.
These are all AI features I have seen products from most of the major security brands over the past couple of years, including FlashRing, Google Nest and Arlo. But Eufy’s version brings something different that I particularly appreciate.
Eufy’s AI agent has two unique advantages
Eufy’s app supports local video storage, among other privacy-focused features.
EufyFirst, features like facial recognition and descriptive alerts based on AI analysis have historically required subscription fees on other brands, which can range from $4 to $20 per month. Eufy sticks to its subscription-free model, making it the most affordable way I’ve ever seen to get such detection.
Second, without cloud data and Eufy’s local video storage practices, this use of AI is safer and more privacy-focused. than versions found in other security cameras. I won’t say it’s completely secure – nothing is 100% secure – but when the processing stays on the device, it’s less likely to be used to train AI models, stolen in a data breach, or spied on by company employees, especially with the added encryption. Eufy offers cloud storage services for those who want them.
Eufy plans to launch its AI with Smart Security Shield in the second half of 2026. I’ll tell you more when I have a chance to test it and see how it compares to the features you have to pay for.
