Today is May 26, 2026, the original release date of Grand Theft Auto 6 before it was postponed to November 19, and fans are mourning what could have been.
Last week, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick suggested that GTA6 is more than a year late. When asked about meeting a targeted release date in an interview with David Senra, the CEO appeared to confirm that the game was initially planned for an early 2025 launch.
“I think we’re about 18 months behind the original date. Not much more than that,” Zelnick said.
This is an earlier release date than the public was aware of. The first officially scheduled date, May 26, was announced alongside the second trailer, released over a year ago now.
However, shortly after its release, Rockstar released a statement confirming that it had delayed the game again, this time to November 19.
There are still about six months to go, but if the stars had aligned, we would have played the long-awaited match today.
“Where is everyone…? I’m waiting outside GameStop until it opens because they said the game was coming out today but I’m the only one here,” one Reddit user joked. “I don’t understand. I thought everyone was excited about this game…”
“Yeah man, it’s weird because I looked at the Rockstar Games page on X and it says the game is releasing today like it’s in their pinned post!” said another.
One fan also shared that his girlfriend “surprised me with $100 today and thought GTA6 I’m going out tomorrow.”
Some fans are convinced that Rockstar could release the third trailer soon, following Take-Two CEO’s remarks that marketing would start “soon.” It’s been over a year since the second trailer, and it’s almost time for the annual summer gaming event, so who knows?
“Tomorrow is May 26, which means we should have played GTA6 “I see a ton of people thinking that Rockstar is going to release trailer 3 or some screenshots tomorrow to make up for it, but honestly, no chance. They’re not going to remind everyone that the game was delayed, they’re just asking for a roast in the comments.”
Rockstar’s latest investor meeting also confirmed that GTA6 will no longer be delayed and is still on track for its new release date. Fingers crossed, nothing changes between now and then!
