BBC commentator mixes up Pharrell with ‘AKA Rocky’ during World Cup final

A BBC commentator was anything but ‘satisfied’ with his celebrity-identifying skills during the World Cup final… getting it wrong Pharrell For A$AP Rocky – and somehow ruin Rocky’s name in the process.

This hilarious mistake came about 15 minutes into Sunday’s showdown between Spain and Argentina… when cameras caught Pharrell sitting in the stands at MetLife Stadium.

BBC play-by-play man Guy Mowbray attempted to identify him by saying… “I think it’s AKA Rocky”… before quickly correcting himself, “Or A$AP Rocky, sorry.”

Yeah… closer to the name, still miles from the man. Rocky sat next to baby mama Rihanna while the rapper Future and the New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson were also in the same suite.

Pharrell – wearing a backwards cap and sunglasses – seemed blissfully unaware that he had just been mistaken for RiRi’s man, but viewers immediately pounced on the double whiff online. Some couldn’t decide which was funnier… Mowbray calling the rapper “AKA Rocky” or confidently slapping that name on Pharrell.

As TMZ previously reported…the booths were overflowing with stars, including President Trump, Tom Cruise, Mick Jagger, Kylie Jenner, Timothée Chalamet and the Beckham family… so maybe Mowbray’s celebrity recognition circuit was just overloaded.

Spain ultimately beat Argentina 1-0 in overtime to win the World Cup championship…and even though Guy didn’t exactly get that particular call right, at least he proved the players right.
