Abraham not surprised by interest in 'uncle' Mourinho as Portugal-Brazil ties persist

Tammy Abraham isn't surprised by reports suggesting Portugal and Brazil are interested in Roma coach Jose Mourinho, whom he considers an 'uncle'.

Mourinho led Roma to the inaugural Europa Conference League title last season, their fifth major continental triumph after winning the UEFA Cup/Europa League and Champions League twice.

However, the Giallorossi boss has been linked with a post-World Cup exit, with Portugal and Brazil seeking a new coach after the quarter-finals in Qatar.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma striker Abraham says any team would be lucky to have Mourinho, attributing the 59-year-old's methods to his own development .

“Jose is a great coach, everyone wants him,” Abraham said. "It's also an honor that an important national team like Portugal is looking for him, but I'm sure the coach is focused on the team.

"We read the news on social media, but we didn't discuss it. We are all focused on Roma.

"He's a reference, I consider him my uncle in Rome. He wants the best for me, when I don't express myself at best, he pushes me.

"Even when I'm playing well, he's never satisfied and that's what I need. I'm not one to pat myself on the back, but I need that confidence that he bears witness to me on a daily basis."
