An odyssey through the American West in the official trailer for "The Pilgrim"

The Pilgrim's Trailer

"Everything you seek to recover...is gone." Freestyle Digital Media has released a trailer for an independent film titled The Pilgrim, the feature debut from filmmaker Joshua Benson. It's coming on VOD to see soon. The Pilgrim tells the story of Will, a successful American architect living in London, who is thrown into an odyssey through the American West after learning of his mother's death. Confronted by his sister, Jeannie, he is tasked with transporting his mother's remains to their final resting place at his aunt's ranch. Will embarks on a journey that brings him back into contact with the ghosts of a life he had long left behind – his landscapes, his history, his traditions… He seems to be inspired by part of the life of the director, as Benson studied cinema at the London Film School. The crew shot with a small crew and a few actors, working almost exclusively in natural light in order to bring an authentic portrayal of the American West to the screen. With Jeff Worden, Rachel Colwell, Julie Oliver-Touchstone, Rebekah Stein, Lou Llobell and Emerald Clark. Good trailer - this has a very strong Malick vibe.

Here is the official trailer (+ poster) for The Pilgrim by Joshua Benson, straight from FDM's YouTube:

"The Pilgrim drew heavily on James Baldwin's essay 'Stranger in the Village' - particularly the line: 'People are trapped in the story and the story is trapped within them... Personal trauma commands such an influence on our lives, and I wanted a film that meditates on how, if ever, we move forward. The American West, with its problematic and complex past, seemed an appropriate backdrop to bring these themes to life. –Director Joshua Benson
