Chasing an unlikely target of 497, the tourists crashed to 77 in the first session of day four at the Adelaide Oval.

Scott Boland, Michael Neser and Mitchell Starc each took three wickets.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul top- scored for the West Indies with 17, with only four other players reaching double figures.

The West Indies started the day 38-4 but were regrouped in under 19 overs to seal another crushing defeat after their 164-point defeat in the first Test in Perth.

Australia now head to Brisbane for the first Test of their three-game series against South Africa, which begins on Friday.

"Good start to the summer,” said pace setter Starc. "We have an extra day or two off which is handy. But great individual and team performances. The batters organized both games perfectly."

The loss marked the end of the coach's tenure West Indies chief Phil Simmons, who announced his intention to resign after being eliminated in the first round of the Twenty20 World Cup in October.
