Baldwin's lawyers want manslaughter case thrown out

Lawyers for American actor Alec Baldwin have asked a judge to dismiss manslaughter charges against him following a fatal shooting on a film set in 2021.

New legal motion accuses prosecutors of "unfairly stacking the cards" against the award-winning actor Emmy Awards.

Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey said she will respond in court and has 14 days to file a response, Reuters reports. /p>

Mr. Baldwin denies responsibility for cinematographer Halyna Hutchins' death.

The 65-year-old actor practiced shooting with a Colt .45 pistol before filming a scene for Rust, an upcoming western filmed near Santa Fe , in New Mexico, in October 2021.

But the gun went off, with a live bullet fatally striking Ms. Hutchins, 42, and wounding the director Joel Souza.

He maintained that he did not pull the trigger and only withdrew his hammer.
