Barbarella has an exchange with the director of CLUB ASSASSIN, Camille Delamarre

Hello, my friends. Barbara here. I discovered that I'm a fan of French accents after chatting with director Camille Delamarre about his latest film, Assassin Club, which is out today on digital and will be available on DVD and Blu- ray on June 6, 2023. The assassin versus assassin movie stars Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), Daniela Melchior ( The Suicide Squad) and Noomi Rapace (Jack Ryan of Tom Clancy). An elite assassin discovers that his final contract is to kill equally skilled assassins hired to kill him. In order to save his life, he must find out who is behind the plot and try to put an end to it.

If the name of the director means nothing to you, he directed the English remake of my favorite French action movie, District B13. Titled Brick Mansions, the remake starred David Belle and Paul Walker as the duo originally played by David Belle and Cyril Raffaelli. While I have absolutely nothing against Paul Walker (and I'm sad he's no longer with us), his athletic ability is a far cry from that of Cyril, whose incredible action sequences hold up alongside David Belle. . Imagine if someone made a remake of The Raid: Redemption and cast Aaron Paul ("Breaking Bad") as the character of Iko Uwais. I mean, I love Aaron Paul, but he just doesn't have the skills to impress us like Iko does. It would be a completely different movie. Casting impacts everything, and that's one of my issues with Brick Mansions.

Although I seem to have slipped on a tangent, everything is connected. I immediately thought of this scenario when I saw Henry Golding, the romantic comedy lead in Last Christmas and Crazy Rich Asians, playing the role of the elite assassin in Delamarre's latest film. I mean, I love how charming he can be in romantic comedies. He made me cry Last Christmas, like staying-in-the-theater-for-all-the-credits-waiting-for-my-tears-dry-cries, so it looks so Bizarre to see him interpreted as a killer. I had to know how this decision was made. Check out our chat, which has been edited somewhat for readability.

I thought involving Henry Golding was an interesting choice. To me, he really seems to shine as a leading role in a rom-com, so I wanted to talk to you about the casting. What were you looking for in these roles and why did you select the people you selected?

“We discussed who could play Morgan. From the beginning, the idea was to have someone who was not just a muscle guy, who fights like crazy, and nothing hurts him. In this genre, we have a lot of films with big, strong, badass guys, and just for this film - we have a love story - it was important to work with someone who can give more , a lot of charisma, just a bit of civility, a human being; he's not a machine. We can see when he's hurt. It was great working with Henry, who is now a friend and someone with who I want to work on again, that's for sure.

"In the beginning, when I got the script, Noomi Rapace was already involved and attached, so I met her, and she's a great actress, for sure. For this film, we were looking for a actress who can play multiple characters in the same movie. Of course, she's done that in the past. In real life, she's strong. She was just perfect for this role, so it was clear to me. She was great. During the filming, it was a real pleasure to work with her because she is a professional, and she gave everything just to have the best film at the end."
