Barbarella tours with Finn Jones of THE VISITOR'S

Hey, friends! Barbara here. I took a break from watching films almost nonstop at a festival to sit outside in the shade and zoom chat with Finn Jones, whose latest film, THE VISITOR, is out on digital and On Demand October 7, 2022. Also on EPIX December 2022.

Along with Jessica McNamee, Dane Rhodes and Donna Biscoe, Finn Jones is perhaps best known for playing Ser Loras Tyrell in Game of Thrones. In this film, he is not Knight of the Flowers, but rather a man who discovers a painting in his wife's childhood home that looks strangely like him. As he tries to discover the character on the web, he encounters many inhabitants with strange behavior.

We had a brief conversation on set, and I learned a few things about the actor that I didn't know. Check it out.

You were, of course, Loras Tyrell on the mega hit Game of Thrones . I was just wondering, what do you think would happen if the Tyrells were against the community of this town?

“Good. If the Tyrells were against... Well, they're a lot nicer than [this community], that's for sure. I think they are also a bit more liberal. I really think they're smarter, so I think they would outwit them, no doubt. Maybe the Tyrells are a little too vain, and that might be their downfall. I don't know, it would be a tight match.”

What attracted you to the role of Robert?

"I think it was a combination of a lot of things. I think that Blumhouse was producing it, and they're a fantastic production company. I also think that Justin [Lange] was directing the movie, and Justin is a fantastic director who I think is really trying to elevate the horror genre to be more than what's traditionally thought of, he's got more of an arthouse director quality I also liked that it was more of a psychological thriller than average, creepy, scary, gore horror, it was more about the character journey, and it was just about 'a more cerebral approach to the genre, in general. So those are the three things.'

Do you want to talk a bit about working with Justin? What does their process look like?

“He's awesome. Justin really knows what he wants. He maps everything. He has a really good list of shots. He's very visually inspired, but at the same time he really leaves a lot of creative freedom, so we change the script a lot on a daily basis. We always tried to make the movie the best version of itself possible. It allowed a lot of flexibility in the creative process, which was cool.

They say everyone has a lookalike. How would you react if you ever met yours?

“I don't know, man. That would be a little weird. I'm adopted, and I think I'd be very fascinated to meet someone who looks like me. fascination with never understanding or knowing their biological selves or their biological counterparts. I grew up never really knowing another person who has biological similarities to me. I think if I met my doppelganger, I would probably be very emotional. I'd probably be like, "Wow." Seeing me in someone else would be fascinating, I think.

I love small towns. I think there are still a lot of really interesting characters and there's just a different attitude there. What is your experience with small towns? Do you find them scary? Do you find them engaging?

"I love them. Every time I've been to a small town, they're always super friendly, always a bit quirky. I've spent much of the pandemic driving across the country. I've drove across the country three times. I had a tent over my car, and lived off it. I drove through a lot of very small rural towns in the United States, and found them b...
