'Barbie' Director Greta Gerwig Teases Ryan Gosling's Ken Suits: 'There Are A Lot' Fans Still Haven't Seen
When is the first time watching the upcoming "Barbie" movie released in June showing the chiseled six-pack by Ryan Gosling, orange tan and platinum mop, the internet went gaga for the look of two-time Oscar nominee Ken. In the photo, Gosling is sporting custom underwear and a rugged head-to-toe denim outfit, though 'Barbie' director Greta Gerwig revealed the ensemble is just "one of many looks extraordinary" that fans can expect from the actor. p>
"I'm thrilled," Gerwig told Variety's Marc Malkin on the Academy's Governors Awards red carpet on Saturday night, talking about the public's fascination with Gosling's costume. "That's what I felt and what Margot felt and I'm glad everyone shares that sentiment."
Some images from the production, featuring Gosling and his co-star Margot Robbie in costume, have leaked on social media shortly after the first looks were released, featuring the actors dressed in neon, tie-dye spandex. Even still, Gerwig said fans aren't "even close" to seeing all of the outfits Ken will wear in the movie.
"I really couldn't say, but that's a lot - that's a lot, that's is a lot,” Gerwig replied when asked how many different looks Ken had created for Gosling.
The upcoming release marks the first live-action "Barbie" film. When asked if the project would be the start of a series, Gerwig replied, “I don't know. I mean, it sure would be exciting if it did."
Gerwig, best known for writing and directing 2019's "Little Women" and "Lady Bird" by 2017, directs "Barbie" and co-wrote with partner and frequent collaborator Noah Baumbach. The comedy will feature a star-studded comedic cast that includes Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera and Issa Rae.
"Barbie" is set to hit theaters on July 21, 2023.
