Bill Hader Teases His First Post-'Barry' Project Could Be a Horror Movie

With “Barry” set to wrap its four seasons on HBO next month, Bill Hader is aiming to make a movie.

Hader directed some of the show's most acclaimed episodes, earning two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series. After directing all eight episodes of Season 4, the longtime comedic actor's feature debut will be a highly anticipated event for moviegoers.

In a new interview with Deadline, Hader revealed that he has written three screenplays for films he is currently developing. Although he kept plot details for all three projects a secret, he said he wrote one with one of his closest collaborators "Barry". And in an even more intriguing development, he teased that he could dip his toe into horror space.

"I wrote [a project] with Duffy Boudreau, one of the screenwriters of the show. He's my best friend from Tulsa. We've known each other since we were 18, so you need him on set. You need your friend from Oklahoma who says, "Yeah, man." That sucks "Said Hader. "We wrote a movie that I would like to do at some point, which is a bit like what everyone usually does. They're trying to do a little, little thing. And then I have two other ideas. One is a little hard to describe, and the other has a "Barry" type tone, but instead of a crime, it's like a horror thing."

Hader explained that while he would love to direct all three screenplays, only the horror film was written as the main vehicle for himself.

"The horror one, I would play. The other two, from now on, I won't be there," he said. "But I've done this before, where I've talked about things, and then once it comes out, you're almost really jinxing it. So, we'll see. Always, the thing that you focus on is the thing that's going well, and then this thing here that you're half thinking about is the thing that [takes off]. I mean, that's what happened with "Barry".
