Boris Johnson is facing backlash after making a bizarre analogy about buying a new kettle in a speech about nuclear power.

Mr. Johnson compared the benefits of investing in nuclear power stations in Britain to cutting energy bills by buying a new kettle in one of his last speeches as Prime Minister.

The lame Prime Minister made the comments after he railed against the last Labor government and former Liberal Democrat Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg over nuclear power investment failures.

In a speech at Sizewell in Suffolk, he said: 'If Hinkley Point C [a nuclear power station in Somerset] was running now it would cut fuel bills by £3 billion.

"We must therefore look to the future and beware of the false economy.

"If you have an old kettle that takes years to boil, it may cost you £20 to replace.

"But if you buy a new one, you'll save ten pounds a year on your electric bill."

Critics on social media interpreted the comment as cost-of-living advice after the clip went viral.

Shadow Business Secretary Bill Esterson tweeted: 'Boris Johnson's plan to cut energy bills is to save ten tens a year by buying a new kettle.

"Labour's plan would save £1,000 a year by investing in energy efficiency measures in 19 million homes. Which party is on your side?"

It comes amid growing anger at the government for failing to set out its plan to help households facing a cost of living disaster this fall.
